How to Wears Thights

Making sure that black appears multiple times within an outfit ensures intentionality. Likewise, making sure that the color of your tights shows up at least twice helps the tights seem like a natural addition. Here, my outfit is mainly navy, but the complementary lavender looks fab in the mix since it shows up in tights AND belt.
Does the color of the tights
blend with or match to the shoes?

Those charcoal gray tights are the only charcoal gray element in the ensemble. Had I worn cream-colored pumps, the tights would’ve seemed a bit more incongruous. But since both tights and shoes are dark tones, the addition of this color seems more natural.

If your tights introduce an entirely new color, selecting footwear in similar values and tones will make your legs and feet look more like a single unit. This not only makes your legs appear longer, but helps the tights seem like an organic part of the overall outfit.
Are the tights clearly making
a stand-alone statement of their own?

In this outfit, those same lavender tights from the first outfit are the lone colorful element. Since every other garment and accessory is cream or gray – all muted neutrals – the bright tights look statement-y and intentional. Brightly colored and boldly patterned tights can be the focal point of an outfit, but will work best if it’s abundantly clear that they’re the focal point. Creating contrast and utilizing neutrals both help drive the point home.

How do you decide which tights to wear with your outfit? Do any of these questions float through your mind as you’re choosing legwear?

Winter Exercises

1. Find a Workout Partner: If you made a New Year’s resolution to be healthier, you may feel your resolution fading. Buddy up with a friend and help one another stick with your resolutions by working out together. It will make it more fun and enjoyable, you’ll feel more accountable for each others’ success, and most importantly, you’ll reap the healthy benefits of pushing one another to stick with your program.
2. Set a Goal: Set a goal to reach by a specific date in spring. Maybe you want to lose ten pounds by March 21st, the spring equinox. Maybe you want to gain some muscle. Or maybe, you want to be able to run three miles without running out of breath. Whatever your goal is, setting one will give you something to strive for, to be accountable for, and better yet, give you purpose to your exercising.
3. Schedule Adjustments: Just because you love to exercise in the morning during the summer doesn’t mean that you might like it as much in the winter. Forcing yourself to do something at a time of day that isn’t enjoyable won’t help matters. Adjust your schedule so that you are more apt to workout as seasons change.
4. Find a Winter Sport You Love: If the gym is completely unappealing, and you are more of an outdoors exerciser, then you may very well want to take up a winter sport. Sports such as down-hill skiing, snowboarding, snow-shoeing, ice skating, and cross-country skiing, are all great for staying in shape and burning extra calories. Or, if you like team sports, sign up for an ice hockey league. Try one or two of these until you find something you enjoy.
5. Seasonally Appropriate Gear: If you are still wearing summer weight workout gear, you may be making it more painful than necessary. Make sure that you are wearing winter appropriate gear so that the chill doesn’t feel as painful as it needs to.

How do you keep enjoying exercise in the winter? Have you done any of these to keep you interested?

Pimples and Acne

Pimples, acne, spots doesn’t matter what you call them, they affect pretty much everyone at some point in their life. From teenagers to adults, we all get this problem and look for the answer to . The only problem is there isn’t one definite solution that will just work and rid us of these attention seeking spots.

If you go to the various online stores you will see the huge amounts of pimple remover products available for you to buy. The majority of the time the online store will offer reviews from customers who have purchased and used the product. This is great as hopefully the person will give a detailed enough review to help you find what is best for you.
However make sure not to expect too much, as everyone’s skin is different so it may turn out not to be as effective on your skin. Be prepared for a bit of sampling of different products to find the right one for you.
Zeno Acne Clearing Device

One product which I have come across, although I haven't used it myself is the Zeno Acne Clearing Device. It has numerous reviews and as with most acne products you will find both positive and negative comments. Read the Reviews Here.

I’ve read about a lot of weird home remedy solutions that people swear by when it comes to getting rid of pimples, I have never tried them so can’t comment on how effective they are.

Faux fur

Faux fur has always been around to some degree but we can thank Karl Lagerfeld for bringing it to the fashion forefront last fall with his head-to-toe looks for Chanel. To our delight, plenty of designers followed with more affordable pieces. As we plunge into winter 2011, the faux fur options abound. There are vests, ponchos, scarves, hats—even stilettos to choose from. One of the many reasons we’re on board is that unlike, say, lingerie as outerwear, faux fur is a trend that women of any age can embrace. Before you hit the racks, have a look at our style guide to wearing faux fur in your 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s.

Stuffed Animals

Jennifer Aniston is in the news this week for revealing to Allure how she hated the 'Rachel' haircut that made her famous on Friends. ("I think it was the ugliest haircut I've ever seen," she explained.) And, though the article is getting loads of attention (while actually being pretty standard magazine fare—Aniston watches The Bachelor! She's a good party host! Celebrities, they say things!), it's the accompanying photos that really caught our eye. In them, the actress appears waxen and eerily doll-like, cuddlin' up in unbuttoned pajamas, baring her side boobs, and making pouty-wouty baby faces under an astoundingly thick, spackle-y coat of taupe-tan makeup.

Now, we at Shine are all for a 41-year-old woman with a smokin' hot bod showing off said bod. But what we cannot abide, in fact, the one thing that is kind of making us want to slash our eyeballs and then die inside, is a grown-ass woman posing and making sexy-cooing baby faces while HOLDING A STUFFED ANIMAL.
Seriously.
Why is this a thing?

We did a little research and found hot women routinely photographed hugging, caressing, smooching, or otherwise simulating intimacy with furry toys. This phenomenon is not just infantilizing and weird, it's also—let's face it—kind of gross. And makeup-slathered and banged Jen Aniston is far from the first celeb to cozy up in a bedroom-eyes way to the Snuggle Bear. Check out our slideshow below. But, be warned folks. It's kind of grim.

How to get a Beauty Makeover in 10 minutes

Looking beautiful is such a Herculean task? Give me a break. Here are some simple tips to make you look super stunning and super gorgeous before you dash out of the door.

After you shower, make sure you spray some great smelling perfume like Miss Dior from Christian Dior, Nude by Bill Blass , Escada Magnetism or Davidoff Cool Water.

If you have long hair, brush your tresses and tie it up in a bun or just leave your hair loose. If you have short hair, wear large funky bands that suit your attire.

Practise the CTM ritual and smear body lotion or baby oil all over your arms, hands and legs.

Apply some black, blue or peacock green kohl with a whole lot of mascara.

To highlight your cheekbones, brush some cheek tints of peach or light pink.

And, for you puckers, apply some great translucent gloss to make your lips big and beautiful!

Now , wasn't that super simple?

Jeans for Skinny People

'm going to talk to you today about how to wear skinny jeans. I think a lot of people, after the whole popularity of the wider end bell leg jeans are a little intimidated about how to wear skinny jeans. And, there's a lot of stigma attached to it. So, I'm just going to just talk about some ways to wear them that you can really pull off. As you can see, I'm wearing some skinny jeans, and I do have them cuffed which some people may not think is appropriate. You can wear them kind of cuffed and short, or the right length. The one thing you want to avoid with skinny jeans is excess length, because it will create some gathering at the, at the ankle area. You can also wear them with sneakers, sandals, heels. The most excellent thing with shoes about skinny jeans, is you can wear boots over them, any length and size. The one thing that I would avoid with skinny jeans is any kind of more bulbous or bulky types of shoes, because it can look like you have lollipops at the end of your legs. Other things to think about are tops, because skinny jeans give you a sense of kind of a little more shape, you can really pull off kind of tunic tops and dresses, or even really baggy tops. You might pair something like this with a waist belt, or even a hip belt, as long as it's long enough not to expose the actual belt line, you can also just wear it with a regular belt. You can dress them up by wearing them with a dressy tank top, or blouse, or down by just wearing them with a t-shirt. Men, can also pull off skinny jeans, but they're not a lot available out there in standard make for men. So, if you're not intimidated by the idea, often times you might try some women's jeans, but they actually look pretty good on men. And, men might wear them with just t-shirts, or pretty much the same way, that you would wear any other jeans. So, please don't feel intimidated by the skinny jeans, and just try some on. Just like any other jeans, you do want them to fit correctly. Skinny jeans does not mean their excessively tight in certain areas, you want them to fit in the, in the waist, in the butt, in the thighs. But, skinny just means that they're basically tailored along the leg from the hip down to the ankle. They do standardly make skinny jeans now, you can find them in a lot of different styles. But, you can also make your own by basically trying them on inside out, pinning them along your line, and just sewing your leg line, and just sewing that seam. So, please feel free to experiment with the style.

Winter Skin Care Tips

We may sweat more, shave more, and soak up more sun in warmer months, but with the winter comes a whole new tricky set of beauty issues we must contend with. Slathering on head-to-toe moisturizer may seem like the solution, but preventing dried out, flaky skin involves a little more work. Dr. Ava Shamban, a Santa Monica, California based dermatologist, has provided 10 simple tips to ward off low-temperatures, gusty winds, and dry heat. Follow these basic rules and you’ll stay silky smooth all over till spring.

1. Opt for oil-based moisturizers
“Dr. Shamban says the main switch in your winter skin care regimen should be selecting an oil-based moisturizer, so look for one that contains avocado or almond oil. These “will lock the moisture in your skin and build a protective layer on the top surface,” says Dr. Shamban. “Water based moisturizers can be damaging to your skin, especially during cold climate, because the water freezes in your skin.” Apply liberally whenever your skin feels dry.

2. Don’t forget your sunscreen
Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean the sun isn’t strong, especially when it can reflect off snow. Dr. Shamban suggests applying an SPF 15-30 to your face (and hands if they’re exposed) about 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply if you’re spending the day outside.

3. Use a humidifier
Heat can dry out more than just your sinuses. With added moisture in the air, your skin won’t be as flaky.

4. Avoid very hot water
It may feel good, but Dr. Shamban says you should never shower, bathe or wash your face with extremely hot water. “It can not only break the capillaries in the face, but also break down the lipid barriers in the skin, which will lead to a loss of moisture.” She says adding a few drops of Jojoba or almond oil to a bath can nourish and hydrate dry skin.

5. Hydrate skin while it's damp
Applying moisturizer immediately after taking a shower or washing your face will help lock-in moisture.

6. Never ever lick your lips
Stash soothing lip balms in your purse, car, and desk to keep lips from chapping. Dr. Shamban says you can also apply few drops of olive oil mixed with few drops of honey to your lips for few minutes to hydrate.

7. Swap your liquid foundation for a cream formula
Liquid foundation can actually freeze! “One of the benefits of using cream is that it will give your skin an extra protective layer and help keep the moisture in your skin,” says Dr. Shamban.

8. Don’t ever leave the house with wet hair
Have you ever had your hair freeze in the cold? This will cause damage to your scalp and hair can actually break off, so it may be better to shower in the evening. Since hair can get dry and damaged just like our skin, protect it by conditioning more in the winter and blow dry hair on a cooler setting.

9. Wear a hat to prevent a dry scalp
Besides keeping you warm, a hat will hold in moisture and protect your scalp from dry air and flaking. Make sure your hat is not too tight and made of breathable material.

10. Give your hands extra love
“The skin on our hands are extremely thin, which means they already have a limited amount of moisture,” says Dr. Shamban. Apply moisturizer frequently, especially after washing your hands, and avoid cotton gloves, which absorb moisture and stay wet.
